Victor Had a very interesting weekend...holidayed with mates in a 3 storey house at Victor Harbour (for any foreigners, it's one of the nicest beaches in South Oz.) After over-stretching the ligaments in my knee whilst running during the week, i was aware that i couldn't drink and party too hard or i'd hurt myself even more. I was aware, it didn't stop me though.
Friday evening was particularly rowdy and drunken. Most decided to relax and let loose and not to go out at all. After all, we'd paid to be there and catered for the weekend, so no point going out and blowing more money on booze and food, right ? My mates had car problems on the way up, but luckily enoughe made it to Victor where their car died. We unloaded their gear into our cars and proceeded. Let the show go on! I had spent the day making a quiche and a lasagne to take, it's always nice to have something to turn to that isn't junk food when you're away. The drunken munchies soon set in Friday night and the quiche disappeared. I ain't talking 'bout no little individual serve either. I'm talking about a proper pizza-sized quiche. I awoke Saturday late morning thinking "Hmm, quiche for lunch sounds nice," only to be confronted with a tiny slither left as a sort of a "Oh shit, has Mel had any quiche yet ?" after-thought. Oh well, i am extremely glad my mates enjoyed my cooking. There isn't a better praise when everyone enjoys a personal creation. But i woulda liked to have enjoyed it too!!
Saturday was fairly chilled and laxed out. People sorta did their own thing during the day. Troll and i went for a stroll round the town and had a look in all the shops and at real estate. Then we drove to Waitpinga Beach to check out the surf (very rough and rugged, by the way). We enjoyed the drive, i think Troll more enjoyed the opportunity to play around in his car at every corner. He knows i relax a little when we're away from the hustle and bustle of the city and believe me, he takes full advantage of it!
Saturday arvo we had a bbq. There was enough food cooked to feed a small herd of buffalo, and i guess everyone took that as a cue to eat like one. Soon after, a friend of mine who has been through a bit of a rough patch lately, joined us. Within a month, she has broken up with her boyfriend of 4 years, had to move back home with her parents, and has been caught drink-driving, whilst speeding in an unregistered car. I say she's had a rough time lately, but you gotta bear in mind that she brought the majority of it on herself. Anyways, she had decided to join us to relax and let the pressures melt away for a weekend. We had a great chat over a few games of pool, she sure was sucking her beer down pretty quick. I was slightly concerned, but she is old enough to look after herself, and that was how i left it. She did however need some assistance from me when she was found half consious, half naked on the bathroom floor. Oh well, what are friends for. The motto of the weekend was "Crash where you fall", I guess she just took it a little too seriously.
So, the drunk had finally been put to bed for the evening, i proceeded to drink on, as did others. Then it got quiet, everyone was staring fairly wide-eyed at everyone else, a few were still inquisitive...then you could here it. The only married couple of the lot were fighting. Not just fighting, really cutting loose at each other. It was not good. We all looked at each other not knowing what to do or say, it was clear however that we had no chance of talking to the couple until they had both cooled off. A couple tried to ask a some questions but didn't get too far with a response. Nothing left to do but try and enjoy the rest of the weekend.
Sunday, we dragged our sorry, hungover asses out of bed and made bacon and eggs. We cleaned up and pissed off. The drive home was enjoyable and relaxing, we decided we would rent some dvd's and vegitate the arvo/evening away. At the vidoe store, it has to be a personal best for Troll...he managed to pick 2 out of 2 movies that rate rather high on the Mel Meter. I managed 1 out of 2 movies that deserve a rating, but the one i chose rated so high that it clouded Troll's efforts easily.
It's funny, there were a couple of people on my weekend holiday who i have known for years, buit only truly discovered who they are over the course of the weekend. I wish i could say to myself that i am happy at my discovery, however it has made me sit up and realise that i choose to spend my time with people like this. Please don't read too much into this, I am not a snob like blueshoe is :>) but there will one day be a stagnant period in your life when you to begin to question desirable and annoying traits of others and how that person evolved to be that way. Like i said, if only i coulda walked away feeling happy wiht my discoveries.
